Bildungszentrum Lohana Berkins Jan 24 – Apr 25
Bildungszentrum Lohana Berkins is an educational center by and for migrants in Berlin that focuses on the perspectives of Educación Popular. It’s a space created for the development of tools with which migrants can actively engage in the political life of this society. The goal is to improve the living conditions for migrants and bring in perspectives of organization and struggle from their homelands.

Lohana Berkins was a travesti activist from Argentina, who fought for inclusivity and human rights, especially for the trans-travesti community. One of her symbols was the butterfly, given her recognized phrase “In a world of capitalists worms, one has to have courage to be a butterfly”.

Design Goals

The aim was to build an identity that is solid and coherent without losing the warmth and community feel of a neighborhood space. The identity had to reflect both its political strength and its inclusiveness.

The design process was grounded in the values and stories shared by the team behind the center. We worked with reference materials emerging from popular education, Latin American collectives, and activist design.

Visual Identity

We decided to use bold colors and sustract visual elements (like the half circle) to create patterns. The visual identity has been used across digital and print formats, and continues to evolve along with the center’s activities. It serves as a tool for recognition and cohesion — without becoming rigid or exclusive.
